Q: Will my car insurance company drop me if I have too many speeding tickets?

AIS Answer: An insurance company can drop you for many reasons, and a poor driving record is one of them. Is it likely they will drop you for a few speeding tickets? Not necessarily.

If this is your current situation and you are mid policy cycle, then you can always call your insurance company and ask them how it would affect your policy. Chances are the customer service person you talk to is NOT in underwriting so really can’t tell you exactly what your new premium will look like, but, they may be able to give you an idea of how the company handles speeding tickets and other violations.

Before your policy renewal comes up, get a few quotes from other insurance companies (yes, you need to let them know you have speeding tickets) and see if you can find a lower rate. The chances of your current automobile insurance company offering you the same rate, or lower than the previous rate before the speeding tickets is unlikely, not impossible, but unlikely. So it’s smart to cover your bases and see where you stand with the new driving record.

    1. My car insurance dropped my wife after too many tickets, so it can definitely happen. Just make sure you drive safer and avoid those speeding tickets and you won’t have to deal with that.

Insurance companies are tough man, just take it easy on the car.

    2. yep, yes, ya and uh huh. You’re going to get dropped once you become too much of a risk. Maybe not the 1st ticket, or the 2nd, but keep ‘em coming and you’ll either be politely asked to find another insurance company or receive a drastically higher bill that will send you elsewhere.

    3. Yes, they can drop you but they probably won’t. When a carinsurance company wants you gone they just raise your rates to extreme amounts and hope you either pay it or leave.

A few speeding tickets shouldn’t make it too bad, maybe a couple hundred per year if you’re younger. I think when you have 3 speeding tickets within 3 years, certain companies put you in the higher risk category and it’s just expensive regardless of tickets.

    4. … an ex-wife! J/K…no really, they probably will.

    5. you can get dropped for no violations
