Q: My insurance company has told me they will drop my wife off of our policy when it renews next due to an inaccurate statement on her driving history which was an accident she forgot to mention that was never filed as a claim. Is there anything we can do to keep the policy the same or does she have to get her own policy?
AIS Answer: Insurance companies do not take misinformation lightly. Whether you forgot, or just didn’t think it was a big deal matters very little to the company that relies on your statement of an accurate driving history, and of course a copy of the Motor Vehicle Report.
If the insurance company is telling you in writing that by the next policy renewal your wife’s name needs to be off the policy, you’ll likely have 3 choices.
- Keep Her On The Car Insurance Policy: Ask your insurance company how much it would cost to keep her name active on the policy, but be prepared to see an increased rate. If you’re willing to keep her on the policy and pay this amount, the insurance company will likely keep her on. However, your insurance company may not even offer this solution so you’ll have to ask them directly.
- She Gets Her Own Insurance Policy: This is not the most desirable route considering you’re now paying for 2 different car insurance policies that likely cover the same vehicles in a household. Sometimes, though this is the only option unless…
- You Both Get A New Policy From Another Company: Customers switch insurance companies all the time for many reasons. It may turn out that you could both be insured on the same policy through another insurance company with a lower combined premium.
If you’re faced with this situation, get as many insurance rates as possible from different insurance companies. See how much it would cost to get her an insurance policy alone, then with both of you on the policy and try and determine which route would be the most cost effective.
Also, don’t forget to give an accurate description of your driving history.

maybe now she’ll remember her accidents.
maybe your insurace company is just too expensive. Instead of pandering to them, just switch to another ins company that gives you lwoer rates.
that sucks. Maybe she just shouldn’t be driving your cars then.
ins companies are so stupid sometimes. I get that it’s all about making a profit, but let’s be realistic about just dropping people or overcharging because you can.
husband got dropped from car insurance too
husband got dropped from car insurance as well.
time for the lady to get her own insurance policy.
