Q: When is the best time to switch auto insurance companies?
AIS Answer: Anytime! Ok, well, within reason. If you’ve just started an insurance policy you’ve likely already paid a significant portion of your premium on the first payment – or if you’ve paid in full then you may want to wait until your policy is about to renew.
Generally towards the end of your policy term is the best time to switch insurance companies, but, that doesn’t mean it’s the only time you can do so. You can theoretically switch companies at any time during a policy period, it’s just usually more cost effective to wait until you’re ready to renew your 6 month policy before you switch as you’ve likely invested a good amount of money in the current policy.
However, as with many things, if you find a better price somewhere else then it may be in your best interest to switch ASAP, especially if dumping your current policy in favor of a new 6 month policy with another company will immediately save you money. This is where getting insurance quotes can really help. They’re fast, free and while not incredibly fun, the money you save will certainly make the 10 – 15 minutes you spent filling out your information worthwhile.
If you want to compare insurance rates, fill in your zip code on the form under this article and see just how easy it is to get competitive car insurance rates. Many people are saving around $500/yr on car insurance…I’d say that’s worth switching companies for!

I never seem to remember to get new quotes, but then again I’m with a cheap insuranc company anyway.
give Progressive a call. If you haven’t dealt with them before they’re great.
I’ve found that switching car insurance companies is really not that effective unless you’re a bad driver. If you file a lot of claims, or getting speeding tickets then it makes complete sense to find a new company because your old company is going to probably raise your rates every cycle. If you’re a good driver and you’ve been with a company for a number of years then it really pays off to stay with that company, especially if you have other lines with them.
switch insurance companies today if you can afford too. Otherwise, talk to an agent and find out when the best time to switch to a cheaper company is.
it’s beyond easy to swtich insurance companies at any time. Just make sure that it makes sense financially to switch to another insurance company before your policy is up.

Right before a speeding ticket is officially on your DMV record!!!
the best time to switch is when it costs you more to stay withyour current insurance company. There are thousands of insurance companies that write policies in the U.S., so if you need cheaper insurance contact a local independent insurance agent
