Q: What’s with all the AAAA, AAA, AA, and A1 Auto Insurance Companies in the Yellow Pages? It’s seems a little redundant and I wouldn’t purchase auto insurance from a company with such a sloppy name.
AIS Answer: Great question, and it’s a very simple answer for the most part.
A company like Yellow Pages or Yellow Book charge a lot of money for companies to list their phone number or ads in their book. Since millions of people use this resource every day it’s a huge market for any company.
Automobile insurance like many other markets in the financial sector are VERY competitive. Since the Yellow Pages and all other phone books are in alphabetical order with numbers being first, followed by the letters A – Z it makes sense to register a company with numbers and symbols in the title if your goal is to gain great visibility through Yellow Pages or other phone books.
Just because a company named AA Auto Insurance has two A’s, doesn’t mean they aren’t a great company. Look at AAA insurance. Most people have heard of them and wouldn’t think twice about using their service. A company like A1 or AAAA is just trying to “one-up” the other top companies by getting a higher ranking name.
Also, you may notice that the LAST listing in the Yellow Pages are very competitive as well. ZZ Auto Insurance, Zephyr Auto Insurance, etc. It’s common belief that people look at either the first few listings, or the last few listings and these insurance companies are working to capitalize on that.
After all if you were paying thousands of dollars per year for a listing in Yellow Pages wouldn’t you want an advantage? I would.

aaa is a pretty tight company. I’ve been on the side of the road and my wife called them and they were right there to tow my car. Not sure how they are with car insurance, but they were on it for roadside assistance.
I use AAA for roadside and it really doesn’t cost that much. Also you make up for the club dues when you travel and stay at a hotel and get a discount. It adds up pretty quick.
I also use AAA for roadside, I agree with the above post. They not only have a fantastic roadside assistance program but you can save quite a bit of money on hotels. The hotel discounts alone are worth the fee.
That’s what all this listings for insurance look like in my Yellow Pages. Like I’m going to call AAAA Auto Insurance A+ !!! and believe they are reputable.
I’m sure these companies are just using the tactic to be first in the phone book, but it doesn’t give them a lot of credit to be AA Associates Auto Insurance Agency if in fact that’s just a made up business name.
aa.com is american airlines, that’s funny.
there are a lot of companies like AAA + 1 auto insurance…I skip right by them.
