Subaru WRX or Mazda 3 Which Has Cheaper Car Insurance Rates
Q: I’m in the process of deciding which vehicle to buy and honestly I like them both for very different reasons, but all things aside, I want to know if it would be cheaper to buy a Subaru WRX or a Mazda 3 for car insurance purposes.
AIS Answer. Though similar in price, these are two VERY different vehicles. Before going through a complete explanation, you can simply go here and get as many free auto insurance quotes as you want on as many different makes – this should help you decide which cars are cheaper to insure.
Let’s start with the Subaru WRX. If you’re going with the $24,000 base model Impreza WRX with AWD you may have a solid, fast vehicle but you’re also VERY likely to find that this Subaru WRX that’s coveted by AWD racers all over the world (and teenage boys) will cost you quite a bit to insure. In fact, the Subaru WRX has made the recent top ten list of the WORST vehicles to insure for overall insurance loss. Essentially, this means that¬¨‚Ć insurance companies lose a lot of money on average to insure the Subaru WRX over other makes and models. Keep in mind, this may not be your exact case,¬¨‚Ć it just statistics.
Now on to the Mazda 3. The 2008 Mazda 3 ranges in price from $13k to $20k. These cars are not comparable in performance or drive-train layout, only in price. You’re dealing with a Front engined front-wheel drive vehicle compared to a front engined all wheel drive vehicle and the horsepower difference is about 80hp.
What does this mean? Well, just taking a quick glance at the stats and the fact that the Mazda 3 did not make the top 10 worst vehicles to insure combined with the much lower horsepower and entry price – the Mazda 3 SHOULD be cheaper to insure. It doesn’t mean it will be, but it should be in a direct comparison.
The only way to truly find out how much you’re going to pay for a specific vehicle is to get an auto insurance quote for each make and model. Get as many quotes as you can and find out exactly what each vehicle will cost you in premiums. Now you can make an informed purchasing decision.

Go with the Subaru! Even if it costs you more money in car insurance so what? It’s so much faster, better handling and besides you’re going to spend more in gas too.
If you can afford to buy the WRX, go for it you won’t be dissapointed paying that car insurance bill.
with the Mazda it will be cheaper to buy, fuel and insure. The styling isn’t that bad, but the two cars are not similar.
I pay like $200 a month for my STI, so yeah I know it’s expensive, but I wouldn’t drive a Mazda 3…or any other car that’s under $20k (unless it’s used).
Of course the STI is like $10k more expensive than the WRX so it really isn’t comparable.
There are so many Mazda 3′s on the road, my mom even has one. I think they’re cheap and tacky looking…I can’t imagine they handle as well as a Subaru either.
