Subaru Was Hit Went To Leif’s In Portland
It doesn’t snow in Portland, Oregon very often, but the one day that it did last year, my husband took my 96 Subaru Legacy to work. Right before the store was closing, a man walked in and asked who owned the car because he just hit it with his F150.
The driver had lost control in the parking lot and slid into the right rear panel. The tail light, hatch and rear panel were destroyed. Even though it was drivable to get it home, it was not legal or nice to drive.
My husband got all the information from the man who hit the car, and I called him the next day to see what he wanted to do about it. He was requesting that I got multiple bids to see how much it was going to cost to see if he could afford to pay for it himself without having to file an insurance claim. Well, I have two small children, and I did not want to drive the car around getting estimates. The first place that I called was Leif’s, solely based on the information that I got in their TV commercials. They immediately sent out a person to look at the damage and start the paperwork, and shortly thereafter, a tow truck was here to take it to the shop.
I thought the service was great, but I was worried that now they had my car and I wouldn’t be able to get additional estimates. The sales representative at Leif’s informed me that in the State of Oregon, you are not required to get multiple bids, and that the insurance company is required to pay the shop that the owner chooses. So if you are ever in a situation where someone is asking to get multiple estimates, I would suggest looking into your State’s laws to see if you can save yourself a lot time and hassle by taking your car to the body shop of your choice and not the cheapest one in town.
