My wife commutes each morning on NorthWest Parkway in Colorado. It’s a great
toll road – you never get stuck in traffic, and you can set off every morning
confident that you’ll get to work exactly on time.
One morning during a thunderous rainstorm, she hit a patch of standing water
and spun our Honda Odyssey. She came to rest unharmed, and the minivan was
miraculously undamaged. However, it was stuck on the mud and grass beyond the
shoulder, and no amount of effort would move it.
Luckily both my wife and I have a number programmed into our phones for just
such a mishap. State Farm runs a courtesy patrol along the NorthWest Parkway,
and their phone number is displayed at regular intervals on the traffic
signage.
She called their number, and they immediately sent out a big ‘ole Ford pickup
to drag the van out of the mud.
It only took about five minutes to reach her, and the patrol guy even helped
her clean out the grass and mud from the skid.
All in all it was a fantastic service, and it really brought home to us the
slogan ‘Like a good neighbor, State Farm will be there’.
