Speeding Ticket Raising My Insurance Rates Made Me Switch Companies

Please contact a licensed insurance company for advice specific to your situation.

Over Thanksgiving in 2003 I was driving my BMW 325i down the road after leaving Safeway. The road was currently under construction (although it was a Holiday) and signs still read you needed to travel at 30 mph on what used to be a 45 mph road.

I was ticketed for traveling 58 mph in a 30 mph zone! Ouch. I went to court and tried to fight the ticket but lost. It wasn’t really a big deal, the ticket was about $175, but my car insuranc was gonna take a serious hit because this was my 3rd ticket in 2 years. I was already paying $270/mo for insurance through a company called Deerbrook and was very concerned that rates were going to skyrocket.

It turns out that my rates didn’t rise because of that ticket with that insurance company because I ended up switching over to a larger insurance company when my policy was going to be renewed that could offer me discount rates. Although I still had to pay right around $250/mo to cover my two vehicles.

    1. switiching insurance companies is never a bad thing. I do it all the time and it saves me more money than if I would have stayed with the same company. Forget the speeding ticket, just work on slowing down, switch companies and driver better. You’ll save more money.
