Want a great tip for keeping your auto insurance premiums lower? Avoid getting speeding tickets.
According to the National Motorists Association (NMA) these are the top ten cities in America for speeding tickets.
- Detroit, Michigan
- Colorado Springs, Colorado
- Houston, Texas
- Orlando, Florida
- Nashville, Tennessee
- Ann Arbor, Michigan
- Albuquerque, New Mexico
- Washington, D.C.
- Denver, Colorado
- Virginia Beach, Virginia
Of course speeding in any city is against the law so don’t assume cities not on this list aren’t adequately patrolled – because they are. Become a safer driver and you’ll see over time those insurance rates will lower.

There are a few locations along I90 that are ridiculous for cops. It seems like they aren’t out there but they get you with Lidar (radar/laser combo) and you’re stuck paying a fine and having the tickets on your MVR.
I found that right outside Fargo it was bad, but not a trap. Minnesota seemed OK, and Wisconsin was OK, but by FAR the worst area I’ve seen is right on the Wisconsin/Illinois border. There are multiple cops right there waiting for speeders, and many people are pulled over frequently.
don’t forget northern california. seems that CHP is everywhere out there. Same with the PCH (Pacific Coast Highway)…it’s almost like they get paid to write tickets…wait…they do!
how did Cali not make that list? There are way more CHP officers patrolling for speeders than I’ve EVER seen in Idaho, or Arizona…it’s ridiculous. I think it’s a game to catch speeders.
