Q: I use my car for delivering pizza, do I need special insurance for pizza delivery drivers?
AIS Answer: Many companies that employ drivers (regardless of product) require that their drivers maintain their own vehicles and carry current automobile insurance.
Often the companies will have their own commercial auto insurance, but the drivers are a liability and passing that liability on to the driver can save a lot of money and prevent a major lawsuit in the event of an accident while delivering their product.
Keep in mind that since you will be using the delivery vehicle for both personal use and business use (delivering pizzas) you will have to mention this to your insurance agent and find out if there is a different type of insurance you need to purchase. In some cases major insurance companies will ask you during the application process if you use your vehicle for business use (even if it’s not your business it counts) and in turn, they may require you to pick up additional coverage.
Please consult with your personal licensed insurance agent or current auto insurance company about the amount of coverage and automobile plans you may need.
