Q: I’m thinking of moving to Minneapolis and I want to know if I’ll be paying more for car insurance than I currently do in Michigan?

AIS Answer: Get a quote online! Seriously, the easiest way to find out what your new premium would be is to get a few competitive insurance quotes in the city you will move to.

Even if you’re not sure the exact address you’ll be living, try to narrow it down a little bit. You may find that rates vary from city to city even though they’re just a few minutes apart. For instance, if you wanted to move to Minneapolis, but instead found a house in St. Paul and moved there instead - it’s likely to be a different car insurance rate, though you may not even realize you’ve left the city of Minneapolis and entered St. Paul it’s that close.

However, each city is likely to have a different auto insurance rate depending on size, traffic, accidents and other criteria, but, the general area should produce a good estimate. Maybe you’ll find that Minneapolis is too expensive and moving to an outer-lying area of the Twin Cities could save hundreds of dollars per year.

Go ahead and use the form at the bottom of this article and get a few competitive car insurance rates, then you’ll get a great idea of how much you would be paying by moving to a new city.

    1. Minnesota and minneapolis/st.paul aren’t really that expensive for car insurance. Chicago maybe, but it’s still less dense than a lot of major cities.

    2. try New York…car insurace is the worst their.

    3. depends on the city really. Minneapolis is expensive to live in.

    4. you could always move to western Wisconsin which is very close to Minneapolis and get way cheaper car insurance.

    5. New York definitely.
