Q. What is military car insurance?
AIS Answer: Military car insurance is a term insurance companies use for special policies that are offered to members of the U.S. Military. Sometimes these are discounts, or the ability to reinstate auto insurance when the service person returns to America – or remains in active duty or as a reservist.
There are many different types of insurance plans for military individuals and their families. Here’s an example of a benefit that some auto insurance companies offer to military service people.
Reinstating A Civilian Vehicle After Military Service
When returning to the U.S. from active duty, soldiers can start a new auto insurance policy and not incur any of the penalties from not having maintained car insurance. One company in particular that is offering this special benefit is Esurance.
While reinstating auto insurance has often been difficult for those in the military who are on active duty and have canceled their car insurance, so has coming home to a higher premium for not carrying comprehensive coverage or other required coverages. To prevent the one-sided law from hurting service people, some states have enacted a policy that prevents an insurance company from penalizing those who have been in active duty carrying lower limits as long as they have paid their premiums, and in some cases even if they have dropped their previous car insurance altogether.
