Q: If I have a Lojack tracking system installed on my car will it save money on car insurance?
AIS Answer: Installing a vehicle tracking device like LoJack (lojack.com), or similar systems may be eligible for an auto insurance discount, depending on your insurance company.
There are many companies out there that offer small discounts for anti-theft devices, even though at this point many anti-theft units like passive and non-passive alarms are available standard on vehicles – the LoJack system is aftermarket and takes vehicle recovery one step further.
LoJack works using a GPS system that will track and monitor your vehicle in the event of theft. With over 1,000,000 vehicles stolen each year in the U.S. totaling over $7 billion, this is not only a great item to have for vehicle recovery but also an important “safety insurance” for the insurance company itself. They want to minimize their risk, and a LoJack is a proven system that helps minimize stolen vehicle loss.
Discounts you may receive depend on both the state in which your vehicle will be insured and the insurance company you choose. Here’s an example of the states that offer discounts, and how much you could save with a LoJack installed.

Even if your state is not listed, it does not mean you can’t get an insurance discount, so please check with your insurance company or agent and ask them specifically if you could get a discount for an installed LoJack.

I was thinking about getting a low jack for my car, and I’m not really concerned about the discount, but I am concerned that even if my car gets stolen it’s still going to be stripped and “totaled” by an insurance company.
My question is if it’s worth it for an insurance company to offer a discount if a car that’s stolen is still going to be totaled?
lojacks are pretty cool, didn’t even think about getting a car insurance discount for one though. 25% of my bill would be awesome!
