Life is good right now. I’m walking out of the grocery store food for. My
husband was away on business and I was planing a special dinner for when he
came home.
A casual, romantic meal where my husband and I laugh, talk, and
strengthen our bond. I hope in the car, smiling, and start then engine and
drive out. I hear a whining sound then feel a jerk of the car. Over and over as
I start to drive off. I make a quick turn into the auto repair shop down the
street. A nice young man pops the hood. “Jeez”, he says. It was
then that I knew it was bad. It turns out my transmission was shot. We
inspected the car and we added a cracked bumper to the list. I immediately
filed a police report who, upon learning there where no cameras in the stores
parking lot, decided I was making the story up. I called my insurance company.
I explain the situation. I can’t drive my car. My husband is out of town. We
have no family or friends to call in anywhere in the state. I’m stranded. The
receptionist at my local insurance branch speaks with me on the phone and
immediately transfers me to a special claims agent, reassuring me I have
nothing to worry about, they would take care of me. I had full coverage, but
with the police report from the doubtful officer I didn’t know if my policy
would be in effect. They said they understood the situation. I was put on hold
for only a few minutes before the claims agent came back on. It seems not only
did my policy not cover a rental car, but the shop I was at wasn’t covered
under my insurance. I was at a loss for words. What would I do? They
insurance company made a few calls and got the shop I was at covered. They
listened to my situation, and cared enough to make a special exception. Not
only that, but they had it worked out for the shop to loan me a car while free
of charge while mine was being repaired. It was in the shop nine days. That
would have been a lot of money for a car rental and being on a budget I was
very grateful. Throughout the process I received various phone calls from my
insurance company checking in with me to see if there was anything else they
could do. I am very grateful for what they did for me and I continue to
receive the best service from them.

I have worked with many insurance companies over the years and have usually found them to be helpful to my customers. Owning an automotive repair facility exposes me to a lot of various companies that are out there. Every once in a while there are circumstances beyond even the insurance companies control, and when this has occurred at my shop, I try my best to accommodate the customer as best as we can.
