If I get a speeding ticket on a motorcycle do I have to tell the insurance company when applying for car insurance?

Please contact a licensed insurance company for advice specific to your situation.

Q: If I get a speeding ticket on a motorcycle do I have to tell the insurance company when applying for car insurance?

AIS Answer: Yes. It works both ways actually. If you get a speeding ticket in a car and are applying for motorcycle insurance the agent will ask you if you’ve had any tickets in the last 3 years, this includes ANY kind of infraction that goes on your DMV record.

If you’ve recently (within the last 3 - 5 years) had a speeding ticket, or other moving violation on a motorcycle, scooter, or other vehicle and it applies to your driving record and logged at the DMV, the insurance company will find it by running a MVR (Motor Vehicle Report).

    1. I called an insurance company once for a motorcycle policy and they asked me if I had a speeding ticket. I’m like “no”…hoping that it only counted when you drive a car. Yeah, no. It’s any driving infraction whether you got it on a motorcycle, car, bus, lawnmower, horse…whatever.

    2. speeding ticket on a horse! HAHAHAHA. That would be awesome. At least that’s not as bad as getting a DUI on a Golf Cart.

    3. what about a DUI on a horse? Try explaining that when youg et back to work. “Yeah, I was riding my horse and I’d only had like 5 beers then out of nowhere a police officers pulls me over on the interstate and said have you been drinking”

    4. yep, you have to notify the DMV

    5. YOUR INSURANCE COMPANY CAN DROP YOU IF YOU DON’T REPORT SPEEDING TICKETS
