Please contact a licensed insurance company for advice specific to your situation.

Q: If a car hits me and I’m parked on the wrong side of the road will insurance still cover my car?

AIS Answer: If your vehicle is illegally parked, it’s unlikely an insurance company will pay a claim if they find out.

It doesn’t mean there aren’t circumstances where your claim will be paid, it’s up to the insurance company, but, parking illegally is no different than driving illegally - it’s not allowed for a reason. If you double park illegally and the person in front of you hits your vehicle - well, you were illegally parked and that’s a violation. If you park on the right side of the road facing the opposite direction - again, illegally parked.

The best thing you can do is pay attention to the laws of the road and this includes parking. This way you won’t find yourself in a situation where the the other driver was clearly at fault in the accident, but the claim was denied because of illegal parking.

If you have any specific questions about your insurance policy you should contact your insurance company and they will be able to accurately answer questions regarding your individual auto insurance policy.
