Florida PIP Insurance: Do I Still Have to Pay For PIP?

Q: If I live in Florida do I still have to pay for PIP?
AIS Answer: On Oct 1. 2007 Personal Injury Protection or commonly referred to as PIP insurance under Florida No-Fault Law was halted due to legislators inability to come up with a mutual agreement to extend the plan.
This new change in required PIP insurance has seemingly confused some of Florida’s residents, and many are assuming that auto insurance as a whole is no longer needed. This is certainly not the case. In fact under Florida’s Insurance Law you must still carry $10,000 in property damage liability.
If you get caught driving without insurance (which is what happens when a company drops your insurance policy for non-payment) your drivers license will be suspended. However, that’s not even the worse scenario. If you are involved in an auto accident without any or the proper insurance you’ll be liable for damages and that could be very costly.
On Jan 1. 2008 mandatory PIP insurance will be officially enacted in the State of Florida. Please pay attention to that, regardless of what people are telling you PIP while not active at the moment will be reinstated by January 1st 2008. When PIP appears on your auto insurance bill you are expected to pay for the personal injury protection coverage.
If you live in the State of Florida please contact a licensed insurance agent or your current insurance company before you make any changes to your auto insurance policy.

Florida has PIP yes and you do have to pay it.
