Q: Do I need to carry proof of insurance in my car, or do I just need to have car insurance?
AIS Answer: In every state in the U.S. you need to carry proof of auto insurance with you if you’re operating a vehicle.
Many people put their auto insurance cards in their glovebox or in the visor, but you don’t necessarily have to use those locations as carrying it in a wallet or purse is just as effective.
The law requires proof of insurance in every vehicle that is being operated, whether it’s your vehicle or not. If you’re asked to provide proof of automobile insurance and cannot produce proof, you will be issued a citation in most cases and ordered to prove that you had current auto insurance at the time of the citation – and likely, pay a fine.
In this day and age it’s easy enough to go online with most insurance companies, print out your card or have them fax it to you and put it in the car so you don’t have any issues with proof of insurance.

just print out your insurance card and put it in your glovebox…simple. No point not at least having prof of insurance in your car because that tickets like $300, and you have to go to court.
glovebox – easiest way. I just can’t stand when I forget to swap out insurance cards and I’ve got this old card in my glovebox. That’s so annoying cause then you have to find your new insurance card and replace the other insurance card.
you HAVE to carry proof of car insurance in Oregon, and I know you do in Washington State and California…so I’d estimate that pretty much every state has this requirement. If you’re a girl, just keep a card in your purse. if you’re a guy, keep it in your wallet. simple.
pretty sure that you have to carry proof of insurance in every state.
you can keep your insurance card in your wallet. In my subaru I keep it in the glovebox.
