Best Auto Insurance Company: How To Find The Right Insurance Company For You

Please contact a licensed insurance company for advice specific to your situation.

A lot of people write asking where they can find the best auto insurance company. While you can check the ratings of insurance companies quite easily, that’s only a small indication of how you’ll be treated as an individual policyholder.

The truth is, the best insurance companies are the ones that specifically meet your needs. This may include the right coverage at a low price, great customer service and pays a claim in a timely manner when you need it.

Of course, it’s not going to be that easy to find the best company…or is it?

“Cheap” Auto Insurance Companies:

There are low cost companies out there that make a huge name for themselves offering cheap car insurance. However, “cheap” often (not always) comes at a price like reducing customer support personnel and eliminating insurance agents you can talk to face to face, and ultimately a reduction in claims payouts(whether due to fraud or otherwise). The situations you could face dealing with a small customer service/claims department could be long wait times, and slow processing. That may be more than some people are willing to put up with for a cheaper car insurance payment.

The whole premise of auto insurance is that your liability for any damage/injury in an accident is covered and you recoup any losses. If you’re at-fault and your claim is denied, or have limited coverage and you’re all of a sudden out a working vehicle or worse a lawsuit for injury and damages - that “cheap automobile insurance company” doesn’t look so great anymore does it? This does not mean all inexpensive car insurance companies are like this, because all insurance companies deny some claims, but, you should do your homework on a company before starting a new policy before you get stuck in this situation.

Finding The Best Insurance Company for YOU:

So how do you find the best insurance company? A simple but effective way, referrals. Ask people who’ve been in “at fault” and “not at fault” accidents how their claims process went with their insurance company, then ask them generally how they liked their company before an accident or without one completely.

A Few Questions To Ask

  • Was the claim paid or denied?
  • If it was paid, was it paid quickly?
  • Did the insurance company handle the claims process?
  • Did you get fair estimate for repairs?
  • Has your premium increased or decreased after an accident?
  • After an accident did you have new limitations on your policy?
  • Is their customer service good?
  • Do they have an online account manager?
  • Can you buy insurance from them online and print an insurance card?
  • Do they offer flexible payment plans?
  • What do you like best about your insurance company?

It’s helpful to ask someone that has a comparable driving record to yours, but it can still be a great reference either way. Every insurance company is different so ask as many people as you can, or an independent insurance agent that may be familiar with a group of specific companies that can steer you in the right direction.

Choosing The Best Company For You:

If it turns out that you pay a little more for car insurance through a major carrier because you have the peace of mind of dealing with an insurance agent and you’ve heard they’ve been attentive to customer needs, with relatively low rates and a good record of paying claims - then this may be the way to go for you. The same applies for the smaller or cheaper companies - it’s about what works for you.

In the end, the choice is yours. Which is why getting as many auto insurance quotes from as many insurance companies as you can is a great way to get an idea of what your premium is going to look like, but, you’ll have to do more research to find out how “good” a company is with customer service, claims, and rates - and ultimately, decide which is the best company for you.

    1. State Farm is the best insurance company, period. I’ve been with many of the major companies, and so far statefarm and their agents have far exceeded my expectations.

    2. progressive has always been a great company for me. I have all of my vehicles insured through them. My wife used to be with Drive Insurance from Progressive, but I think the cost of the agent was making the insurance a bit more than it should have been. Using Progresive directly was the easiest.

Oh…and they haven’t increased my rates in years. I woudl recommed Progressive to anyone.

    3. is there even such a thing as the best insuranc company? In my experience it’s always been a hassle to get them to do anything but cash your check. Doesn’t matter who you deal with, it’s money first and when it comes time to evaluate a claim they spend forever deciding whether or not it’s valid.

    4. The Hartford is a great company if you’re over 50+ or 55+ (can’t remember which one gets the lower rates), either way, it’s a great company to deal with and I believe they are directly related to AARP. My mom is going to go through them for car insurance.

    5. Travelers has been good too me.

    6. Independent agents are the best. They can find companies you’ve never even heard of with low rates that can save you money.

    7. I don’t believe I’ve ever found the BEST insurance company and I’ve been with a lot of them. One way or another you’re giving money away each month.

    8. I’ve been searching for top insurance companies and I can’t seem to find anything solid. Who has the best car insurance? Which insurance companies are the largest? Which insurance company pays their claims? If anyone knows the answer, write back.

    9. some of the top rated insurance companies provide other insurance lines like home, and if you combine your insurance policies you’ll not only get better service because they want to keep your business, but you’ll usually get to deal directly with an agent that has your best interests in mind.

    10. the cheapest auto insurance for my car has always been Progressive. I would go to progressive.com before going to any other site online to check auto insurance rates. Plus, their commercials are funny.
