Allstate which is estimated to insure nearly 10% of all drivers in California was ordered by the Insurance Commissioner of California to decrease rates by 15.9% - for an average decrease of over $120 on california car insurance premiums.

Beginning April 14th the new decreases are set to take effect, though it’s uncertain whether Allstate will file an appeal to the order as Allstate originally asked for permission to drop its rates by 7.1%. According to California’s Insurance Division, 7% wasn’t good enough, or even close. They had calculated a drop over 19% as suggested reduction.

We’ll keep you updated on how Allstate and the Insurance Commissioner handle these rates changes.

    1. as a person that’s lived in California, the new rate decreases ordered by the state is great news. It would be even better if other insurance companies aside from Allstate would lower, or be made to lower their rates.

It’s really not fair to order Allstate to drop their rates without the other companies being ordered to drop their insurance rates by a similar amount.

    2. I can’t afford the rates Allstate quoted me.

    3. I like Allstate commercials. Seems they’re one of the few companies out there that actually gets to the point and tells you what they sell and what they can do for you instead of having some cartoon character crack jokes.

    4. California isn’t the best place for car insurance, or many other things anymore. It’s too crowded, cars get stolen all the time and everything is expensive. I don’t believe any insurance company in that state is fleecing people, it’s more trying to make a profit out of an expensive state to insure like CA is.
