$1000 Car Insurance Deductible Made It Too Expensive To Fix My Car

I was driving my BMW 3 Series a few years ago when I saw a fire truck approaching from the oncoming lane with their sirens on. I looked to pull over to the side of the road, but the truck in front of me just jacked on his brakes and I had to do the same. When I came to a stop the front right quarter panel had curb checked the sidewalk.

When I got home I checked out the front end of the car and saw a small scrape on the front. Instead of calling my insurance company and raising my already super high rates I decided to not have it fixed due to cost.

My deductible at the time was $1,000 and I estimated the damage to be the entire cost of replacing the front fascia. Since the BMW has a plastic front end a scrape is not something can be easily filled and repainted - so my guess is this would have been probably $600+ to fix.

    1. I used to own a BMW and it needed constant maintenance. Car insurance was $270/month and all it did was attract attention. I would suggest purchasing anything but a BMW if you don’t want all of the above.

    2. $1000 deductible will save some money though. If you don’t have access to $1k, then don’t do it, but if you can it will definitely be better than havinga 250 deductibl
